What is an egg hunt?

An egg hunt is a game which decorated eggs filled with chocolate or candies, or chocolate eggs are hidden in various places to find by children. The game is often played outdoors, but can also be played indoors. The children typically collect eggs in basket.

History of egg hunt

The egg, an ancient symbol of new life, has been linked with pagan festivals celebrating spring. From a Christian perspective, Easter eggs are said to represent Jesus’ resurrection. Decorating eggs for Easter is a tradition that dates back to at least the 13th century. One explanation for this custom is that eggs were formerly a forbidden food during the Lenten season, so people would paint and decorate them to mark the end of the period of penance and fasting, and then eat them on Easter as a celebration.

An egg hunt for children

Here is an idea to make an Easter egg hunt at class for children between four and five years old.
First of all, each child has to paint and decorate a plastic egg and then, when they finish, the teacher will introduce in the egg a colour paper. The colour paper will be blue, yellow and red. After that the teacher hide all the eggs, the children will try to find the eggs and open it. Depends on the colour they form three different groups.

Then each group has to figure out a riddle about animals to find a chest which has chocolate egg for each child of each team. When they guess which animal is, they must search an image of that animal and look around the chest with chocolate eggs.
The riddles will be:

• I’m big. I’m grey. I have a trunk. (Elephant)
• I’m small. I’m green. I can jump really high. (Frog)
• I have four legs. I have hair on my body. I can bark (Dog)

When they are painting: Great! / Amazing! / That´s beautiful! / You are so creative!

¿Cómo influye  esta actividad en nuestra futura práctica docente?

Pensamos que esta actividad influye positivamente en nuestra práctica como docente ya que nos ayuda a comprender y entender mejor una de las celebraciones más populares celebradas en el país del que proviene la segunda lengua extranjera que le aproximaremos a nuestro alumnado en un futuro.

Además del conocimiento teórico sobre esta festividad que nos ha aportado la realización de esta actividad, también hemos aprendido a cómo llevar a cabo una dinámica utilizando una segunda lengua extranjera, cosa que vemos muy interesante y necesario en las edades tan tempranas.

Esta actividad podremos realizarla en nuestro futuro como docentes cuando trabajemos en un aula de Educación Infantil.

Reflexión final.

Nos ha resultado difícil crear esta actividad ya que se trataba de la primera actividad utilizando una segunda lengua extranjera que hemos hecho en toda la carrera, pero finalmente ha salido y hemos aprendido cómo mejorarla para que cuando la realicemos salga cada vez mejor.

Pensamos que es muy importante que los niños conozcan costumbres y fiestas típicas del país del que proviene la lengua que están aprendiendo, además de que enseñar este tipo de conocimientos a través de actividades será más sencillo y entretenido para el alumnado que enseñarles mientras están sentados en una silla sin entender realmente lo que van a hacer.

En cuanto a la actividad, hemos intentado que la dinámica resulte lo más divertida y amena posible para que el alumnado no se aburra al cabo de un rato realizandola.

Por otro lado, pensamos que la asignación de roles ha sido una gran idea ya que a cada integrante del grupo se le ha atribuido un rol fomentando la participación e interés de todas al diseñar la actividad.

Gracias a los roles, no hemos tenido ningún problema para realizar la dinámica ya que hemos trabajado en equipo, es decir, todas nos hemos repartido el trabajo equitativamente.
